LEGENDARY PIRATES

Because everyone has their own fighting style, opinion is varied on which of the Legendary Pirates is best. Different phases of the game also suit different LP's, as do the level of training of each LP.
Rumbling: the target is three star wins for maximum plunder points for the good of the guild. If you're pushing your PR you'll be using this technique as well. Often mentioned for this phase are Ching Shih, Greenbeard, Black Bart, with occasional mentions of Caesar, Blackbeard, Sadie (however she acts as a magnet to witch doctors so can can ruin their effectiveness in an all out battle)
Streaking: the target is a win using the minimum crew possible (also called sniping) so that the recuiting time is short. Sadie is the outright favourite mentioned in chat due to her long range. Some also use Ching Shih, Cornelious Heston, Blackbeard, Black Bart.
Farming (or looting): the target is to steal as much grog and/or gold as possible. The win is generally not important and can be used as a technique to purposely drop PR and gain resources while doing it. Mack McKracken in his Thermidor outfit (buffs thieves) is excellent for this, but the bullet sponges and distractors (Black Bart, Blackbeard, Cornelious Heston) are also favoured.
Thunderstruck Event: is essentially 7 days of rumbling for maximum event tokens (same as plunder points but with some extre points during the storms). LPs are as per normal rumbles with the addition of Annabelle Levaux. It has been mentioned that her ability to slow nearby defenses on flooded bases is very good (deploying her directly next to defenses has an immediate impact on the defensive structure of an island).
UPGRADING
There is no hard and fast rule but the best advice I've heard is: Pair the pirates that use the same common materials, then level up your favourite. When you get stuck waiting for rare materials then do the other one.
So far no-one in the guild has had much experience with Jeanne de Berry, or Captain Tinto so the jury is out on their effectiveness, and most agree that Romeo Boomer is useless. However, all the LP's have changed as they have been upgraded, so they should all be upgraded, as even Romeo might have his day in sun (but I doubt it!)
OUTFITS
The trade ship arrives weekly with a selection of outfits (categorised as Common, Uncommon, Rare, Legendary, and Seasonal) available for purchase by Grog, Gold, or BP. They can also be won in events.
Common, Uncommon, Rare, and Legendary outfits are "fun only" and offer only a personal customisation option. There is no performance benefit
Seasonal outfits offer performance enhancements, or "Buffs". The individual buffs are seen as icons on the outfit. Pressing on the icon reveals the buff. However, beware before purchasing or using the outfit as Christmas outfits have one buff that significantly boosts performance but also reduces performance in another area.
