How do I set up my Island?
Depending on what you are trying to achieve in the game will change the way you set up your island. If your trying to collect millions to upgrade an item you need to protect that storage. During a rumble you are trying to protect your Pirate Hall. If you protect that the best anyone can do is a 1 star victory against you, so you’ve helped the guild win a rumble by making them use their resources for minimal BP.
Defense is all about luring the attackers into an area you want them, holding them there, and shooting them before they can shoot you.
The strategy I use is to:
Look at the islands of the the guild members, and use our ideas. Copy a base exactly if you want to. It will only be taken as a compliment.
The last thing is to ask the advice of the rest of the guild. My defence is based on the way I conduct my attacks and the advice I have received along the way. Other guild members may have better ideas.
It’s then up to you to decide what strategy to use. Remember, it’s your island, and you make the decisions. The advice offered including this guide are only suggestions. They are not instructions that you have to follow.

The strategy I use is to:
- Concentrate my fire power into as small an area as possible to give cross-fire protection to my weapons while protecting the PH and some of my storage.
- Surround that area with walls and continually upgrade them with a builder dedicated to that job only.
- Identify the “big hit point” items like the Academy and Guild Hall (check in the details of each building) and position those in front of bunkers. As the hit points decrease position those buildings just outside the walls. As much of your resources should be within the range of your guns.
- Mines will attract Juggs to them so put them in front of the Guild Hall and Academy within the fire zone of the bunkers. Put a voodoo mine right next to it so it delays the Juggs defusing your mine. The mine is only a decoy trying to hold the Jugg while he’s being shot. If something else steps within range it’s a bonus.
- I put the flame gate in front of the bunkers too to attract all the others to stumble through it and get cleaned up by the bunkers. Crossing fire from mortars and canon help.
- Placing the ships with the jetty facing out to sea just gives attackers somewhere to stand and sink your ships. Place them directly against your walls. This blocks and protects that section of wall and crossing fire should help protect the ship.
- The flag pole seems useless to a lot of people. It is not. It is a decoration item so is not attacked, but Sky Raiders drop to the ground around tall items, so a well positioned flag pole can stop them getting into your compound.
- Use other decoration to extend the land from you compound. The less ground between your defence and the beach means the more control the attacking captain has over his pirates. Put more ground in the way and they are more likely to pick their own route to attack from. You can also build up land on the windward side to move the sky raiders drop point out further. If they don’t drop into the compound their effect is less.
- Save an outhouse or two to put on their own in the corners. I have one camouflaged on my island and another sitting on it’s own at the bottom of the screen. If these go unseen they may make the difference between a 2 and 3 star victory for your attacker.
